Bringing Science to the Public . . .
In 2005 the Life Sciences Learning Center went to the Rochester Museum & Science Center to present a Science Saturday session in infectious diseases. Visitors to the RMSC performed mock ELISA assays, looked at microscopic parasites and learned the value of hand-washing. On a separate visit, the LSLC brought DNA isolation and fingerprinting activities to the RMSC floor.
RMSC Science Saturdays bring science to the general public in the form of hands-on experiments and demonstrations presented by community science organizations each Saturday from October to May. The LSLC now joins other Science Saturday participants, including scientists from Eastman Kodak and researchers from RIT’s Carlson Imaging Center, in providing opportunities for the community to experience science. Look for the Life Sciences Learning Center in 2006, on February 4th for Environmental Health Day and on March 18th for another DNA day.
